A Love Story at Bancroft Castle Told by a Massachusetts Engagement Photographer

Ruins have a way of enchanting us, don’t they? There’s a certain magic in their weathered stones, carrying stories of the past while offering a timeless, almost ethereal charm. Ting and Logan’s engagement session at Bancroft Castle in Groton, Massachusetts, embraced all of that magic. The ruins sit atop a steep hill, really adding to the castle vibe and making the setting totally breathtaking and unique. At the base of the hill lies Gibbet Hill Grille, a cozy restaurant and wedding venue where Ting and Logan wrapped up their session with a celebratory dinner. As a Massachusetts engagement photographer, I loved capturing the beauty and authenticity of their connection in such a romantic location.

The date was November 24, 2024. The late fall chill was softened by a rare break in the cold streak we’d been having, though the wind made sure to keep us on our toes—or at least gave Ting’s hair a starring role in many of the shots! Shooting at the top of a hill isn’t for the faint of heart, but these two made it feel effortless.

Meeting Ting & Logan

Ting and I first connected over Zoom for a wedding consultation, and I knew instantly that we were a perfect match. She was so sweet, and her vision aligned beautifully with my style of storytelling. Meeting her in person only confirmed what I’d felt—Ting is the kind of person who lights up a room and makes everyone feel welcome. As a nurse, it’s no surprise that she’s as kind as she is grounded.

Logan matched her energy effortlessly. Kind, laid-back, and completely trusting of the process, he was game for anything I suggested during our shoot. You could tell how deeply they cared for each other—every glance, every laugh, every quiet moment shared between them was a testament to their connection.

A Love That Stood the Test of Distance

Ting and Logan’s story is a beautiful reflection of trust, love, and unwavering commitment. They had only been together a few months when Logan, a soldier in the United States Army, was deployed. Ting told me how he showed up with flowers and a look that said it all—he was leaving. Despite the challenges ahead, she decided to wait for him, knowing in her heart that what they had was worth it.

During his deployment, their connection only deepened. Phone calls and video chats became their lifeline, and their open, honest communication strengthened their bond in ways few couples experience. When Logan returned less than a year later, their reunion was everything they’d hoped for—and more. Last summer, Logan proposed, sealing their love story with a promise of forever.

Capturing Their Connection

Ting and Logan’s engagement session was magical. The ruins of Bancroft Castle provided a moody and romantic backdrop while the wind swept across the hill, adding a dynamic, cinematic quality to the photos that felt almost alive. Ting’s hair caught in the breeze, Logan’s steady presence by her side—it all came together in a way that felt authentic and raw.

These two are like magnets, naturally drawn to one another with a bond that’s impossible to miss. Their session was a mix of documentary and artistry, capturing not just how they look together but how they feel together.
